Have a New Grad interview coming up and wondering what to wear? We’ve got you covered! While your skills, experience, and personality are what matters most at the end of the day, it is always helpful to make a great first impression when walking into the interview room. 

Here are our top tips: 

1- Choose neat, professional attire 

Aim for smart business or smart-casual clothing that is clean, well-fitted, and professional. This could mean trousers, a collared shirt or blouse, a blazer, a knee-length skirt, or a simple dress. Closed-toe shoes are often a safe choice.  

2 – Pay attention to presentation 

First impressions count. Remember to iron your clothes, polish your leather shoes, comb or tie your hair back, and ensure that your overall appearance is tidy. Paying attention to small details can help demonstrate your professionalism.

3 – Be comfortable 

You’ll come across more naturally if you’re feeling comfortable in what you’re wearing. Choose clothing and shoes that fit well and allow you to move comfortably. If you’re distracted by ill-fitting shoes or a tight collar, you’ll focus less on the interview itself.  

4 – Keep accessories to a minimum 

When it comes to jewellery, make up, perfume, nail polish, and other accessories, less is often more. Simple choices will help keep the focus on you and your interview answers, rather than your outfit. 

5 – When in doubt, it’s safer to be more formal than too casual 

If you’re deciding between two outfits, it’s generally safer to select the more formal option. Dressing professionally shows respect for the opportunity and can help you feel more confident on the day.
