NSW Health’s annual Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards are around the corner, and this year’s 29 finalists have now been announced. 

The Awards recognise outstanding nurses, midwives, and teams who lead with compassion, drive innovation, and delivery high-quality care that improves outcomes for patients, women and families, and communities across NSW. 

This year’s finalists have been nominated across nine categories, including the New to Practice Nurse or Midwife of the Year, the colleague-nominated Healing Heart Award, and the consumer-nominated Healing Heart Award.  

“Nurses and midwives are an integral part of the NSW Health system, supporting not just patients and their families, but also other healthcare professionals,” said NSW Health Secretary Susan Pearce AM. 

“I want to congratulate the finalists for this year’s Awards and also pay tribute to all nurses and midwives who strive to improve health outcomes for the people of NSW every day.” 

NSW Health Chief Nurse Jacqui Cross said the Awards help recognise the vital role nurses and midwives play in the NSW public health system, while newly appointed NSW Health Chief Midwife Donna Garland said she is looking forward to being involved in the Awards for the first time this year. 

“I’ve seen first-hand the excitement these awards generate when a staff member is named as a finalist, and I am looking forward to celebrating with the finalists later this year,” said Garland.  

The Awards ceremony will be held on Monday 23 November 2026, at the NSW Parliament House, where all finalists and winners will be celebrated.
