Resilient Nurses And Midwives To Stand Strong At Sydney Women’s March

Lamp Editorial Team
|
January 18, 2018

Starting small as a simple protest march in Washington D.C against the election of Donald Trump in January 2017, the Women’s March grew astronomically worldwide. Millions marched in 576 different locations across 82 countries all with the same message; women’s rights are human rights.

An overwhelming majority of nurses and midwives in NSW are women (around 80%) and no stranger to witnessing ongoing discrimination both inside and outside the workplace. Sometimes the situations we see patients suffer through are similar to the discrimination we have been unfortunate enough to experience ourselves.

Do you know anyone stronger than a nurse or a midwife? We are SO resilient and we don’t back down when we see others in pain or facing injustice. This is why we will be out in our scrubs standing side-by-side with sisters from all walks of life.

Enough is enough. All misogyny, harassment and violence must be stopped and we’re the ones who can make it happen.

On the one year anniversary of the Sydney Women’s March, thousands will once again join together to take a further stand for women and equality.

There are still so many issues women face every single day that we need action on. We will be marching for reproductive rights, making workplaces safe from sexual harassment, LGBTIQ rights, workers’ rights and equality, civility and human rights.

The march will begin at 11 am in Hyde Park on 21 January 2018 where we will all link hands as a physical show of unbreakable determination to change the culture of discrimination, harassment and assault against women around the globe. All are welcome.

Planning on coming this Sunday? Look out for the NSWNMA flags and blue scrubs!
