I have recently moved into agency work after working in permanent employment. I’m interested in taking up some rural contracts, but I’ve found it a bit confusing to understand what the conditions are and whether the offers of guaranteed casual shifts and accommodation travel costs are legal. What should I do?
Navigating agency work and fixed placements can be tricky as they don’t often present like the traditional employee/employer contracts and relationships you may have come across in your career. Often rural hospitals will offer incentives, but whether they are legal and enforceable will come down to the details of your contract or letter of offer.
It is generally easier to resolve any discrepancies or issues in the contractual terms before you sign the contract. NSWNMA recommend that the safest course of action for our members is to contact us first. We can assist you by reviewing the contract before you sign and agree to it, so you can fully understand your conditions and rights before you commit to the offer.
