If you’re someone that found the uncertainty of COVID-19 has resulted in a few extra kilos or a slight tightness in your clothing, let’s dive into how you can take back the wheel and stop the weight gain cycle.
Losing weight definitely doesn’t have to feel like an endless uphill battle where you’re constantly battling cravings, having low energy and sleepless nights, and constantly feeling tired, angry, hungry or lacking in motivation.
Instead, here are a couple of tips from Karl at Vitruvian Health about how to lose weight quickly, but sustainably.
Eat 4 meals a day
Eating 4 meals a day (instead of the traditional 3 meals) helps provide you with a constant source of energy throughout your day. Losing weight is not about starving yourself -t’s actually about eating consistently throughout the day so that your body has a regular, dependable energy intake that it can use to fuel your everyday activities.
Side note: snacks are not meals. Eat what you’d have for dinner four times per day.
Eat 500g of veggies with every meal
Every meal?! Yes, every meal!
What about breakfast? Popular breakfast veggies include spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, capsicum. Once you start eating vegetables regularly for breakfast, over time you might find yourself becoming more experimentative with options such as potato, green beans and kale.
Eating a decent serve of veggies with every meal will help you to feel fuller for longer, which means you won’t want to snack between meals (these are where the hidden calories come from). Also you’ll be nourishing your body with a great range of micronutrients, which will promote the detoxification pathways in your body that assist with weight loss.
Lastly, veggies are low in calories. So not only will they help you feel full, but eating them will also help you stay in a caloric deficit – which means you will be eating less calories than you are expending, aiding with weight loss.

Be a person that loses weight!
This is not your traditional weight loss tip… rather it is one that focuses on your mindset. If you think that losing weight is going to be hard before you even start, then it will be. However if you make a weight loss plan and stick to it each day with the end goal in mind, you will slowly but surely chip away at that number on the scale and get to where you want to be!
Bonus tip: successful weight loss requires perseverance but most of all consistency.
If you follow your weight loss plan from Monday – Friday, but then eat and do what you want on Saturday and Sunday, chances are you are undoing any weight loss you had during the week and are just restarting the process every Monday. No wonder Mondays are tough!!
