A study on Australia’s mental health has revealed that concern for the mental health of colleagues has increased through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Morneau Shepell Mental Health Index for December has shown that 34% of respondents reported being concerned about a co-worker’s mental health. Further 33% of supervisors reported concerns over an employee’s mental health.
Overall, the numbers indicate an improvement in mental health outcomes through 2020, although the study indicates that Australia’s mental health has yet to rebound to pre-pandemic standards.
Jamie MacLellan from Morneau Shepell said that, “[w]hile we see improvements, have still seen a decline in psychological health across the country” through the pandemic.
“As the pandemic continues, it’s important to acknowledge that there has been a significant shift in employee expectations,” he continues.
“Employers must ensure employees feel supported in today’s ever-evolving workplace.”
