Gain a competitive edge by furthering your knowledge of what it takes to be an effective contemporary leader in an ever-evolving clinical landscape.
As demand in the health care industry accelerated post-pandemic, we recognised the need for qualified leaders in nursing. In response, Notre Dame University developed our Graduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership (Aspiring Leaders) to provide an opportunity for early career health care leaders to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to support new Registered Nurses and health care workers with the demands of managing and coordinating care.
This new qualification teaches leadership and management strategies, quality improvement processes, professional development, and emotional intelligence so that you graduate with the fundamental knowledge and skills to provide effective leadership on a day-to-day basis. The program is intended for early career health care leaders to ensure that they are provided with the support to succeed and progress into leadership roles in the future.
In keeping with Notre Dame University’s philosophy, we focus on the development of the whole person, supporting our students as they juggle the demands of life, career and study, and nurturing them to achieve their career goals. The Clinical Leadership program places an emphasis on the individual and will value the knowledge and experience of students as they engage with the facilitator and experts in the clinical environment. Not only will you find a great learning environment, but you’ll gain lifelong mentors, friends and a place in the Notre Dame community.

“After completing my previous postgraduate degree at The University of Notre Dame Australia, it seemed the natural choice that I would continue my studies there. Having access to staff who are highly experienced within their chosen field ensured that I was receiving contemporary and reliable guidance from practising industry professionals, as well as benefitting from networking opportunities. The close professional relationships that I developed with the staff at Notre Dame University throughout the duration of my studies, provided me with an extremely supportive learning environment. As my cohort was small, I was able to work closely with my supervisor, which provided a tailored approach to my learning requirements,” Renae said.
At Notre Dame University, we recognise the demands of life and work. As such, this Graduate Certificate is a fully online program that is self-paced, with experienced academics to facilitate your learning throughout the semester. The curriculum is delivered through engaging and innovative means to match a rapidly changing technical climate.
The program can be completed online in 6 months of full-time study, or at your own pace, part-time. The program is made up of three core courses and one elective, which can be selected from courses available through the School of Nursing & Midwifery or the School of Law & Business. This allows you, in consultation with a program coordinator, to tailor the direction of your education within this speciality. Masterclasses are also available, where industry leaders share their knowledge, discuss career planning and a variety of avenues to help you succeed in your career.
Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate, there are additional options for further study; you can apply the knowledge you have gained to enter a Graduate Diploma, an MBA or a Master of Nursing. The choice is yours.
