I’m thinking of retiring soon and would like to reduce my hours leading up to retirement. What do I need to do?

You will need to request either a permanent or temporary reduction in your hours. You can provide the reason of a plan to retire as to why you would be requesting this.

In the Public Health System, for temporary reduction in hours, this would be requested through the TIRA process or if you work in the private system or an AHO you may be able to make a request for a flexible work arrangement under the Fair Work Act 2009.

Your employer can reject your request based on reasonable business grounds but should provide these reasons in writing. If you have made a flexible work arrangement application under the Fair Work Act 2009 your employer is required to provide a response to your request within 21 days. If you have made your request and it is rejected, call the Association for further advice on 02 8595 1234.
