Parental leave under the nurses award
I am currently employed in the private sector under the Nurses Award 2020. What are my parental leave entitlements from my employer?
Clause 24 of the Nurses Award refers to the parental leave entitlements set out in the Fair Work Act.
In short, your entitlement to parental leave is up to 12 months of unpaid parental leave. You can also request up to a further 12 months of leave. Eligibility is limited to those who have worked for their employer for at least 12 months before the date or expected date of birth, adoption or having taken responsibility for the care of a child.
This is the minimum parental leave entitlement in Australia. NSWNMA may be able to negotiate better entitlements in an enterprise agreement with your employer, if there are enough organised union members in your workplace.
