Using personal devices for work
I occasionally use my own personal mobile phone for work purposes, such as accessing my team’s MS Teams chat group and for multi-factor verification purposes to access work websites. Can I be reimbursed for these costs?
If you use your own personal mobile device for work purposes, we recommend you review the Australian Tax Office website for information on what tax deductions you may eligible for.
These may include mobile phone calls, data expenses, the cost of the device itself and for meeting any evidence or record keeping obligations. Not necessarily all costs will be covered, particularly if the device is also used for other non-work-related purposes.
You should also check if your employer has a ‘Bring Your Own Device’ policy or whether a work-issued mobile phone could be provided.
