Changes to an employer contract
My employer has told me I must sign a new contract which is different from my current contract. I am not happy with some of the terms. Do I have to sign the new contract?
An employment contract is made when the employer makes an offer that is accepted by the employee. A contract must be entered into by mutual consent between the parties, free of pressure or coercion. A contract can be oral or in writing and does not necessarily require signatures to be legally binding. An employer cannot force or compel you to sign any contract or document that you are not comfortable signing. If you don’t agree, then you should let your employer know that you decline to sign as you wish to remain on the terms of your current contract.
