Safer Staffing at Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital

Lamp Editorial Team
|
December 22, 2017

Over recent months, Hornsby & Ku-Ring-Gai Branch has been working with the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association to investigate workloads and staffing levels at Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital.

Following concerns from members, the NSWNMA obtained data from Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) indicating it had not complied with the minimum nursing hours within its Nursing Hours Per Patient Day (NHPPD) units.

As a result, the NSWNMA lodged legal proceedings in the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW on behalf of members.

On 20 December 2017, the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW made 15 recommendations, which have the support of both NSLHD and the NSWNMA.

This is a positive outcome for our members and will ensure improvements occur across Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital.

Read a summary of the recommendations here.
