Travel to Australia for parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents

Lamp Editorial Team
|
October 22, 2021

From 1 November 2021, parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents will be able to obtain travel exemptions to travel to Australia.  A parent can include biological parents, legal (including adoptive) parents, step-parents and parents in-law.

Parents will still need to lodge a travel exemption request providing evidence of their:

  • child being an Australian citizenship or permanent resident; and
  • parental relationship to the Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Parents intending to travel to Australia will also need to hold a valid visa for travel to Australia.

More information can be found on the Home Affairs website.

If you want advice about obtaining a travel exemption or visa for your parents, you should contact the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association for a referral to Visa Assist, the free and confidential immigration advice service for union members.
