Time to terminate nursing career
I have been an emergency nurse for 23years. Having to work in a small but busy metropolitan ED, It was a job I loved, the people that I worked with and helping the community gave me great satisfaction.
Now since COVID, I have come to hate my job. Hate is a very strong word. I now dread turning up to work knowing that i will have to spend hours in the N95 mask ,goggles, face shield, gown and gloves. It is hot, which in no time becomes unbearable. I now require to take medication to reduce my allergic rhinitis due to the N95 mask. Something that prior to covid I did not need to do.
The constant text messaging daily listing the shortfalls and the constant badgering to do overtime has now become harassment and has forced me to block the number on my phone to get some peace on my days off.
Dreading when going to work only to be working consistently short staffed has become normal. This effects patient care and the kpi*s not being met. Patients are not receiving time appropriate care, waiting times blow out. The constant bed block adds to all the other pressures.
The fact that i am a senior skilled member of staff, I am now forced onto a large amount of nights shifts as my skills are required after hours has become even more tiring., this was done without any consultation by management which is against the nurses award. I reduced my rostered hours to try and get some balance but it has only made it worse. I am so over it, hating my job and am reskilling myself in my own time to get out of nursing all together.
So there you have it Mr NSW premier and health minister, job well done, another skilled registered nurse getting out.
You must be so proud, loosing skilled nurses by the bucket load. You are not the ones who suffer, it is the people that you supposedly represent.
You will definitely not receive my vote at the next election
