The Mother’s Day Classic is back in 2022!

April 26, 2022

This year, the Mother’s Day Classic is celebrating 25 years of impact. In 1998, just over 3,000 Australians registered for the first Mother’s Day Classic events in Melbourne and Sydney. The Mother’s Day Classic has since grown from a walk in the park to an iconic nationwide event that brings up to 100,000 Australians together every year to honour and celebrate those touched by breast cancer.

The Mother’s Day Classic community will be coming together once again in 2022 to walk and run in support of the 1 in 7 women diagnosed with breast cancer. Breast cancer is still the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with 55 Australians diagnosed every day.

Since its inception, over 1.5 million Mother’s Day Classic participants have donated nearly $40 million to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to fund life-saving breast cancer research. Since 1994, the 5-year survival rate has increased from 76% to 91.5% – statistical proof that research is making a difference. There’s still a long way to go, but every step helps us get closer to a world without breast cancer.

On Sunday, 8 May, up to 70 events will be held across Australia and we would love for you to join in the fun by volunteering with us! Volunteers are an important part of our MDC Community, and help bring our events to life. We’re looking for volunteers from all backgrounds and levels of experience.

As an event day volunteer, you’ll meet new people and become part of a community of committed volunteers. You’ll provide the vital support network that will enable us to roll events out smoothly, and with great expertise. Volunteering at events is a terrific way to join the 25th anniversary celebration, be part of a team and make your unique contribution to an important cause.

The volunteer opportunities available include (but are not limited to) assisting with the registration process, helping with on-the-day activities (including face painting, our kids zone, raffle, tribute wall), course support (including greeting our participants at the finish line and cheering them on around the course!), customer support information, finish line medallion distribution, and food handling and service, among others. If you have a particular skillset we should know about, do also let us know!

If you’re interested in volunteering with us, please check out our website for more information and to sign up.
