The Sydney Hospital Nurses Alumni
Calling all nurses who have worked at Sydney Hospital who are keen to get together with former colleagues.
The Sydney Hospital Nurses Alumni, formerly the Sydney Hospital Graduate Nurses Alumni, are reaching out to nurses, who have worked for a minimum of 2 years at Sydney Hospital, to join the Alumni.
The organization was established by Matron Joyce Rodmell in 1962 and has supported the hospital and the Lucy Osburn/Nightingale Museum for over 60 years.
The group organizes an annual reunion lunch at Parliament House in Sydney, awards scholarships to current staff at Sydney Hospital, encourages participation in events such as International Nurses Day and communicates with members via a newsletter four times a year.
The most recent lunch saw over 100 members enjoy a wonderful get together on 11 October.
A graduate who trained from 1948 and will celebrate her 100th birthday in December was amongst the assembled group. She had many stories and was delighted to be there.
Nurses travelled for all parts of Australia to join in the fun.
We were recently able to fund the restoration of the headstone of Lusy Osburn’s grave, in Harrogate, UK, through the efforts of one of the nurses currently working at Sydney, who was visiting the cemetery.
As the number of hospital trained nurses get less we are hoping that our university educated colleagues, who love the hospital as we do, will pick up the mantle and continue the tradition of the Alumni.
Membership is $35 per year.
