The Shift with Shaye: Pumla Coleman
For the Harmony Week edition of the Shift with Shaye, Shaye sat down with Apartheid survivor and nurse of 51 years, Pumla Coleman.
Pumla saw and experienced the injustices faced by Black South Africans and witnessed unspeakable atrocities committed by the South African Government as part of the Apartheid regime.
Beaten and placed in solitary confinement, having her family home shot up by police, and witnessing a massacre. This is some of what Pulma was forced to endure because she chose to resist against the Apartheid state by organising industrial action against the segregated hospital and exposing the inequalities faced by Black South Africans.
Her story is one of incredible bravery, fighting against systemic racism and risking her life to advocate for the health, welfare, and rights of her community.
